The clouds continued to roll across the sky, like they carried the weight of the conversation with them.

Val plucked up the courage to ask her next question, fidgeting in her seat as she finally turned her body inward toward Olivia. “So, it was just sex, not romance?” Val didn’t have a ton of experience with either.

“What is romance but the long game to sex?” Olivia asked breezily, like it was a practiced answer.

Truly, Val had no skin in this game, considering what she was after, or at least what she told herself she was after, but she bristled at the response. “Do you really mean that?”
